RUN AGAINST THE TIDES
A remarkable 50+ mile ultra run that challenges runners to conquer the rugged terrain of coastal Cape Cod.
The Run
The Run Against The Tides, an extraordinary 50-mile ultra run curated by Alex Guglielmetti, challenges seasoned runners to a solo, self-supported, and unsanctioned journey along Cape Cod's stunning elbow-shaped coastline. Starting in Provincetown and ending in Brewster, this course showcases the pristine landscapes that define Cape Cod.
Runners must navigate dynamic tides influenced by the moon's gravitational pull, which temporarily make certain sections of the route inaccessible. This demands impeccable time management skills and unwavering endurance. The unique challenge of syncing with the tidal oscillations sets this ultra run apart, making it a true test of strategy and resilience.
Designed for accomplished marathoners, trail runners, and triathletes primarily from the East Coast, the Run Against The Tides promises a significant athletic feat and an unparalleled adventure. This race offers seasoned runners the opportunity to conquer Cape Cod’s toughest ultra run, covering over 50 miles of raw, stunning coastline.
Join us every May and September for an adventure like no other.

This route is intended to be a solo, unsupported run. Though it could be potentially run with a group, since this route traverses state and national parks, you will have to research the laws and limitations of running in a group. We want to ensure that we are not only exploring the beauty of the Cape but also protecting it and practicing leave no trace principles.

Every runner requires different gear, but the most important item for this race is good shoes that work well for running in the sand. Other than that, whatever food you require for energy and water. I recommend 3 (12 oz) bottles, there are many opportunities to refill your bottle along the way, since you are never far from roads on the route. Bathrooms are available around much of the course, though, if you choose to run in the off-season those facilities may be closed.

According to FKT.com, “Self-Supported means you may have as much support as you can manage or find along the way, but not from any thing or person just for you; any support you employ must be equally available to anyone else. This can range from caching supplies in advance, purchasing supplies along the way, staying at motels, to finding or begging for food or water.”

You can run this at any time you would like, but during late fall, winter, and early spring, the temperatures can be quite cold making it potentially dangerous, and likely very unpleasant. Many facilities are also closed at this time of the year. I recommend running this during September or October, when the weather is still mild, and the water is still warm.
